Community: The Pillar That Holds Us Together

Health & Wellbeing

When we think about health, it’s very common for people to focus on what we eat, how we move, or how well we sleep. But one very important element is overlooked, and it influences our wellbeing every single day.

Community is one of the Magic Pill(ar)s because human beings are wired for connection. We thrive in relationships and interactions. Shared laughter can take stress levels down tremendously. Getting a coffee with a friend makes you feel so much better about all parts of your life.

Forms of Community

Long standing friendships have a way of grounding us. There is something deeply regulating about being known over time and relationships hold our history. They remind us who we are when we forget and celebrate growth with us.

Church communities or faith gatherings offer another layer of belonging that creates shared rhythm and support. Whether through worship, service, or conversation, these spaces often become anchors.

Workout groups and walking buddies bring movement and connection together. A simple “see you tomorrow morning” can be the difference between staying in bed and showing up for yourself. Building accountability and encouragement is so beneficial to our health.

Things like book clubs or dinners with friends invite conversation and curiosity where slowing down has so many benefits. Gathering with family remind us that we are part of something larger than ourselves.

Community does not have to be big to be powerful.

It can look completely different for everyone. One trusted friend, a weekly coffee date, a morning workout class, or just a group text where everyone checks in.

Magic Pillar - Community

Pause for a moment and ask yourself:
What situations bring you joy and happiness?
When do you feel most like yourself?
Who are you with in those moments?

Health is not only about individual habits, but also about shared experiences. Research continues to show that meaningful connection influences stress levels, immune function, mood, and even longevity. When we feel supported, our bodies respond and our cortisol levels shift.

Community gives us a place to practice gratitude and generosity. It creates space for so many emotions - whether laughter or tears. It reminds us that wellness is not meant to be pursued in isolation. As you reflect on the Magic Pillars, consider where community fits into your life right now. Are there relationships you want to nurture more intentionally or a group you have been meaning to join?

Health is built in kitchens, on sidewalks, in gyms, in pews, around tables, and in living rooms. Ordinary moments that become meaningful, because they are shared can benefit our health so much more than we may realize.

Community is something we cultivate, and when we do, it becomes one of the strongest supports in our wellness journey.
